Canadian International Auto Show - FEB 2004 Metro Toronto Convention Centre
The Canadian International Auto Show is an annual consumer
show, featuring over 800 new cars and trucks, including prototypes
and classics. During the 10 day event, more than 300,000 people
visit the Auto Show.
There is something for everyone with 600,000 square feet of
exhibit space. Visitors are amazed to see cars suspended from
the ceiling, Canadian Legends like Burton Cummings singing,
as well as musical and sales presentations which delight everyone.
The exhibit floor is designed to give the
major car manufacturers the appearance of a dealer showroom,
with special feature areas. This design allows the car manufacturers
to be creative and innovative – the end result is always
spectacular.
Due to the complex nature of this event SHOWTECH
begins working with the show organizer and many of the exhibitors
8 months prior to move-in. We must ensure we have the skilled
people and specialized equipment necessary to complete this
project in a safe and hassle-free environment.
SHOWTECH must assess all electrical, mechanical
and lighting requirements to ensure the integrity of building’s
electrical and mechanical systems are not compromised. In
order to ensure there is sufficient power in locations that
do not currently have adequate power supply, we use transformers
and draw from other electrical locations in the building to
increase the over-all power in a specific location.
For example, there is enough power in General
Motors’ booth to electrically operate 80 houses. SHOWTECH
dedicates 6 electricians and 5 plumbers to install 40 sprinklers
heads, which require a 3 inch pipe to be connected to the
building’s sprinkler systems, 10 – 150 kva transformers,
8,500 feet of 4/0 cable, 4,000 feet of #2 cabtire, copious
amounts of disconnect switches to actually wire this booth
in the given 10 day move-in schedule. We supplied a maintenance
electrician to provide continual monitoring of the electrical
distribution.
Once the show is open, it is critical we
continually monitor the temporary electrical distribution
throughout the buildings to ensure the integrity of the exhibit
areas and building systems are not compromised.
We successfully serviced fifty clients, installed
700 outlets, hung over 100 signs and banners, wired over 400
lighting fixtures and connected 60 electrical services varying
from 15 amps to 400 amps.
